Out in the desert something amazing is happening - something due to all the rain California experienced this year - a rare Super Bloom. People from all over the world are traveling to California just to see it.
Not to be outdone by the tourists, my cousins and I jumped in the car and headed out to the Anza-Borrego Desert to witness this natural wonder for ourselves. Our motto: Borrego or Bust!
Through the car window, I marveled at the wildflowers flanking the highways close to home.
Various tiny delicate specimens sprouting up everywhere. Some I've never seen before.
Oranges! Purples! Whites! Pinks! Yellows! OH MY!
The normally dusty brown hills are lush green and quilted with large dense patches of yellow and orange flowers.
At first you see the obvious as you walk around, then your eyes narrow in on the micro blooms that are difficult to capture without a high powered camera lense. Look - can you see the super micro white flowers surrounding the cactus with pink blooms above?
A grand carpet of flora spread out as far as the eye could see.
It was a 2.5 hour drive to the desert. Needless to say, we weren't disappointed.
