Kiddo flew down from Minneapolis for spring break in March. This is what she hoped to experience - - -
Suntanning on a warm beach under bright blue skies, sipping cocktails, enjoying panoramic views and beautiful sunsets.
What "I" expected was a low key visit, a few days off of work relaxing at home, cooking a special meal or two for my chicklet and reading a book. A hands off, go no where type of gig. You know, a "staycation" void of freeways and driving. What we got instead was this - - -
Fog, fog and more fog. Five days solid of unprecedented dense fog: morning, noon and through late, late afternoon. My neighbors tell me this is a FIRST EVER for this time of year, just like all the rain that came when kiddo visited at Christmas time - UNHEARD OF AMOUNTS OF RAIN.
Each day we would wait for the fog to burn off at 1-2 pm, but it never did. Kiddo said it was like living in a cloud. Cheeky monkey.
So what's a mom to do? Put on her best smile, throw on her tour guide shirt and hit the road of course!
Driving, Shopping, Eating, Aquariums! Oh my!
We drove to San Diego (an hour south from my place) and went to Birch Aquarium...hit up one of our favorite stomping grounds, Little Italy and ate at the new Cafe Gratitude, a plant based restaurant where I highly recommend the avocado cheesecake!
On another day we hit all the cute little shops in Downtown San Clemente.
Then there was more driving and more eating out - - - wash, rinse, repeat - - - for 5 days.
Honestly, all of the unexpected driving to dash here and there left me feeling a little haggard and the weather was a big let down for us both.
But when you are with the ones you love, does it really matter? I hope you are with someone you love today making the most of what comes your way.
Peace, love and art,
